For those of you who participate in the challenge, Monday's Finish the Story, hosted by Barbara Beacham, I received an update on her health by her husband, Paul.
Barbara was taken to the ER on November 14, and as she was waiting for a room to be prepared, her Blood Pressure dropped extremely low and was taken to the ICU.
On Wednesday, November 18, the doctors did a CT scan and discovered something in her right lung. Due to her weakened condition, they were unable to do a bronchoscopy so they could not be 100% sure what that something is. They put her on a regiment of antibiotics. If her condition improves in the next 24-48 hours then it is more than likely pneumonia. However, if she doesn't improve, it means the cancer has spread. If that is the case, because of her current condition, she only has 7 to 10 days left to live.
Paul has asked us for our prayers, as the next few days will be critical for Barbara.

Liking this post seemed insufficient (and a bit awkward given the post’s content). I’m new around these parts, so I do not know Barbara. Still, she is in my thoughts today. Hoping for the best.

Yes, I was too, but right after that her husband had to take her to the ER and everything has been downhill since. Susan Lager thinks it has metastasized to her brain (because she has been mentally out of it). If that is the case, then she only has less than a week to live.

Thank you Scrapydo2. I know Barbara and Paul really appreciate that. She hasn’t had a challenge for several weeks now. The last I heard from her she was doing better than the previous week, then suddenly she took a turn for the worse and I didn’t hear from her. In fact, I didn’t know what was going on until Paul emailed last night. I’m worried about her.

If the worst happens it would be a great tribute to her to do a last writing task in her memory……like a picture of a jetty with the beginning line:
As I approached the end of the jetty there sat Barbara…..just a thought….

That is an excellent idea Michael. However, I am not sure what a jetty is. I was just thinking that I should have said in my comment to you that I will let you know as soon as I hear something from either Barb or her husband, Paul. Right now, I would prefer to feel positive for her rather than thinking it is the end. But there is a small part of me that thinks that it probably is (after reading Paul’s update).

Sorry a jetty is like a wharf, a landing pier, you see them on lakes and so forth where people can tie up their boats and all that sort of thing….yes like you I’d like to be positive but the mention of pneumonia is not a good thing….take care Joy..

I hope she recovers. I lost my uncle to cancer last year and my sister to diabetes complications. Let’s not lose anyone else….

Dear Lord, the cross of ill-health is not an easy burden to bear. You said that in everything we should give you thanks and yes even in moments like this we give you thanks for Barbara’s health and life. God of infinite goodness, you are her sustenance and strength in adversity, may this difficult time pass and let the report be a good one. Everlasting King of Glory, let not her pain be undue. May your abundant grace be upon Barbara and her family in this difficult season. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.
