Flash Fiction for Aspiring Writers

Week of 06-24 thru 06-30-2015

(2nd Post, the 1st Post was lost)

PLEASE READ

Several people have contacted me regarding the continuation of stories and how this is not only difficult to keep up with, especially when more than a few people are doing it, but it also discourages new people from following and reading our stories and blogs. So, I am asking participants to stop doing serial (continuation) stories. If you are writing a serial story, please try and wrap it up by the end of this month but definitely by the end of the week ending July 8.

As Rochelle explains in her challenge, Friday Fictioneers, flash fiction stories should have a beginning, a middle, and an end, using (100-175) words or less. Thank you for your understanding.

6. This is a flash fiction challenge (stories in 100-175 words or less) and each story should have a beginning, a middle, and an end. Therefore, no serial (continuation) stories. They become too complicated for some readers.

  1. I guess I was right !!!! 😀 😀 I too find it difficult to read continuation stories, especially where you have to read all the before chapters in order to read new one. As I follow so many bloggers, it becomes confusing.

  2. Putting last weeks cryptic ‘clue’ together with today’s photo… I got it!! 😀

I have to confess that I have a continuing story, but… each part is roughly 1000 words and I don’t use Flash prompts for it. It’s a separate entity in itself. It’s written at my leisure, and is more like an experimental project, with little expectation from readership.

However, I really do agree that these continuation flash pieces, going back (eg) 13 parts, doesn’t want to make me read them. It not only defeats the object, but leaves you with no idea of what the story is about.

I’m glad you put this notice up and you were bold enough to say it. And, Yes, I agree with you… a separate weekly prompt catering to continuous flash only, is a good idea.
